This fabric basket has been my stress therapy! Eight days ago hurricane Irma blew through the state of Florida. Let me tell you something, hurricanes are no fun. So much preparation goes on in the days before (and fear, to be honest). And then if you are lucky enough to be like us and only sustain minor damage – there is still a ton of cleanup that has to be dealt with afterwards. Along with power outages and broken A/C units (don’t ask).
Getting back to my sewing machine to make this fabric basket was such a relief for me – thank goodness! And thank goodness the power came back on because my sewing machine is not the treadle variety.
When I was cleaning my sewing room before the storm, I came across this sweet sample charm pack of Gingham Girls fabric by Amy Smart for Riley Blake. The colors are so cheerful and happy that I couldn’t help but use it for my first project after the scare was over. My heart goes out to those who were’t as blessed as us after this storm or the one before it that hit Texas.
If you click over and see Amy’s fabric basket, it appears to be patchwork like mine – but her’s is cheater patchwork fabric, lol. I have absolutely nothing against cheater patchwork fabric, except that I didn’t have any! So I pieced together 6 charm squares for each side of my basket.
Then I filled my new fabric basket with a bunch of fresh limes that someone gifted us after the storm – they had all fallen off the tree during the hurricane. Blessings!
