Use applique to sew a sewing machine on a quilt or tote bag! If I took an art class and had to pick something and paint a study, it would be a sewing machine. What other item is the object of all my daydreaming? Two of my kids are currently taking a summer art class and I’m sure that’s why I’m even thinking about it.
My Bernina 1530 was my inspiration for this applique pattern. Isn’t she cute? Of course, I took some liberty and moved the screen down to the side so I could put the heart at the top.
There are some oddly placed seams in this little wall hanging, and that’s because I originally thought I was making a tote bag and two zipper pouches. After I changed my mind about that, I had to do some creative quilt-as-you-go to hide it (mostly). Then I used black binding to frame it like a real piece of art. 🙂
If you want to make one too, just prepare one sewing machine applique in each size and sew them to a 13 1/2” x’ 32” background.
The Love Sewing Machine Applique Pattern download includes my cute little sewing machine design in three different sizes, plus mirror images of the same sewing machine applique in case you are using paper-backed fusible web like HeatnBond (my favorite method).

At my daughter Chloe’s high school (can you believe my baby started high school???), the lunch lines are so long that she has been skipping lunch! She’s always starving by the time she gets home because she doesn’t want to carry a big lunch bag as well as her heavy backpack – poor girl!

I am so in love with the beautiful look of simple patchwork quilts with lots of squares. This is the perfect way to use up fabric scraps like I did, or you can make a beautifully coordinated quilt with pre-cut 2 1/2’’ square fabric pieces that come in mini-charm packs.
I’m also in love with the process. If you feel like quilt making is your escape from the world and sitting down to sew for a few hours makes your troubles fade away… this is the quilt for you!

Your sewing machine works so hard for you that I know you want to keep her purring. Just a few hours of sewing will cause fuzz and lint to build up under the needle plate. Sometimes pieces of thread can get lost under there too. Cleaning your sewing machine regularly can prevent broken needles and mechanical problems.
So… I decided to take a last minute sewing class when I was at Houston International Quilt Festival last month! I had to buy some supplies and ended up with one of my favorite sewing tools. My friend was already…

I love it! Thank you for the gift of a free pattern. Also, I too have a 1530! Love that machine — use it often even though I have a 780 that I got as a anniversary gift from the hubby a year ago. I will never give up my 1530!!!
Thank you very much sewmama for the free giveaway! Recently I saw Pat Sloan do a sewing machine quilt it is so good and have been try to get the pattern despite a number of emails. I do understand she gets hundreds of emails and she is a very busy person so I greatly thank you for sparing her any work on my behalf. Now when I finish my current projects I will be able to make a sewing machine quilt for myself and my best friend. Julie Beard Adelaide South Australia. [email protected]

I use my Juki for quilting and most straight stitch sewing but I’ll never give up my Bernina 1530 either. She’s such a sweetheart! Thanks for sharing!
