My Version of the Easy ‘Merry’ Pillow
Ever since I saw the adorable Easy ‘Merry’ Pillow on The Train to Crazy I’ve been dying to try it. Of course I had to go and make it more complicated by putting 5 words on instead of 1, and by using a dark velvety fabric that I couldn’t mark on… but I love how it turned out anyway.
Here’s the original pillow. You can visit the original tutorial by clicking on the picture to the left. You can also see all of the holiday tutorials that we’ve featured by visiting our Holiday Love page in the site Archives.
So this really is an easy tutorial, and everything was going fine and dandy until I tried to write my lettering on the pillow so I could stitch over it. Yeah. The decor weight velvet is perfect for a pillow but not so easy for this project. That’s when I decided to just switch to my free-motion foot and ‘write’ the letters freestyle.
It’s not perfect, but I love my messy sewing machine handwriting. Hope they love it too. Oh, by the way my brother Jay got married this year so the pillow says ‘Jay and Kassie’s first Christmas.’ I probably should have added ‘together,’ so they didn’t sound like infant twins, but I ran out of room. He he. But newlyweds are kind of like infant twins, hmmm…
Then I re-arranged my trees a bit and switched back to straight stitching to sew them on. The original tutorial gives easy instructions for turning your embellished piece of fabric into a pillow cover. Those tree fabrics, by the way, are some darling prints from Fabric Tree. Love their selection.
Happy Christmas sewing, everyone!
