I used stretch velour again (like the other designs that I made into pillows), but this time I decided to hand stitch her to the background and then put her in a wooden hoop with crochet around the edges.

I wrote detailed instructions for sewing applique to anything in this post.

Here are some brief tips if you want to copy what I did:

  • Stabilize your background (I used medium-weight interfacing) before you begin, especially if you are using a knit fabric like I did.

  • Trace the design onto HeatnBond lite (or other fusible adhesive product). Cut out design shapes leaving at least 1/2” around each shape.

  • Fuse the HeatnBond lite to the back of your chosen fabrics. Now cut along your tracing lines.

  • Arrange the applique pieces on your background fabric and press to fuse.

  • Machine or hand stitch the applique pieces to the background.

  • Hang in a pretty spot. I used {this tutorial} to crochet around an inexpensive wooden embroidery hoop.
