This week’s optional ‘assignment’ is embellishment… any kind! Search Pinterest for ‘crazy quilting’ and you will find miles and miles of gorgeous Victorian looking items covered in all kinds of ribbon, beading, and embroidery. Check these out for inspiration:
Now, I don’t do a whole lot of embroidery, but I had a lot of fun playing with all those fancy stitches on my sewing machine that hardly ever get used. If you decide to embellish this way, here are some tips:
Try out your stitches beforehand on a couple layers of fabric. Most of mine turned out quite different than I thought they would and I found some unexpected favorites. ๐
Use embroidery thread. It might require slightly less tension, so experiment some more… but you’ll love how great it makes those stitches look.
See if you can find an open-toe foot for your sewing machine. It makes it much easier to put your embroidery in the right place.
Then just have fun! I played with my different colors of thread sewing along some of the seams. I haven’t decided yet if I want to add some hand embroidery or do more machine kind. We’ll just have to see…
Here’s a recap of all our adorable sponsors and prizes…
