My Charm Pack Cherry Quilt (from a free pattern)

This past month I got to piece together a fast and easy quilt top and I loved it. It’s the new and free  from Fat Quarter Shop. {Click here} to download the free Charm Pack Cherry Quilt Pattern.

The whole quilt is made up of 4 charm packs – two solid and two print. I used Vanessa Christensen’s Simply Style and Bella Solids – both from Moda. It’s so totally fun because you don’t worry about what print goes where, just grab them at random. I finished the whole top in one day! This video from Fat Quarter Shop shows you exactly how:

In addition to the free pattern, Fat Quarter Shop is offering 20% off all charm packs until March 2nd. Can you resist? I think not!

Here are a few more pictures of my quilt-in-progress:

Chain piecing is what makes this pattern so fast.

And maybe because the top went together so quickly, I decided to slow down and hand quilt it with pearl cotton thread. Did you read my {post on hand quilting}? Pure enjoyment!

You’ll actually have 12 charm squares left over after making the top, so I pieced mine into a simple strip for the back.

You saw how my hand quilting simply outlined the squares and rectangles on the front. Now look how awesome that looks on the back! I honestly can’t say which side I like more.
