Are you sewing along with us for our Classic Blocks: Fresh Fabrics series sponsored by Anna Griffin and Blend Fabrics? We are seeing how gorgeous those classic quilt blocks look when sewn up in fresh new fabrics. Last month we made churn dash blocks {tutorial here}, and this past week I finished making my 12 blocks into this baby quilt. As soon as I had finished hand stitching the binding, I stood up from the couch for a minute. When I turned my back I heard a little voice say, ‘look here’s a quilt just my size!’
My blocks were 6” square. I added a sawtooth border using extra half square triangles, and then I used more Kona cotton (the color is Snow) to make it 40” square.
The print fabrics I used are from the Modern Eclectic collection by Blend Fabrics. They are so gorgeous! In these two photos I’ve already washed and dried the quilt to make it all wrinkly and soft. I love using cotton batting to make it shrink up that way.
So, what have you been sewing up this week? Did you make something with one of my free sewing tutorials or patterns? I would love to see! Tag me on Instagram @sewcanshe.

Have you fallen in love with Quilt as You Go yet? It’s a fun technique for quilts, of course, but I’m having lots of fun using it for pouches and tote bags too.
I’m so excited to share with you the pattern for our first mini quilt of 2018… Flora! This beautiful little quilt was designed by the very talented Lauren of Molly & Mama…
At my daughter Chloe’s high school (can you believe my baby started high school???), the lunch lines are so long that she has been skipping lunch! She’s always starving by the time she gets home because she doesn’t want to carry a big lunch bag as well as her heavy backpack – poor girl!
Looking for free table runner patterns? I gathered up all my favorites in one place – here are free quilt patterns for table runners for fall, winter, spring and summer!
I am so in love with the beautiful look of simple patchwork quilts with lots of squares. This is the perfect way to use up fabric scraps like I did, or you can make a beautifully coordinated quilt with pre-cut 2 1/2’’ square fabric pieces that come in mini-charm packs.
I’m also in love with the process. If you feel like quilt making is your escape from the world and sitting down to sew for a few hours makes your troubles fade away… this is the quilt for you!

Sew an adorable canvas tote bag with two exterior pockets using economical cotton canvas and pretty quilting cotton for the straps. This bag is so easy to sew, and since the canvas is durable enough to carry anything on its own, you don’t need to add a lining.
Last year I made my kids new outfits for the 4th of July. I was just sorting through my photos and I found these. They look so spiffy I thought I’d share. Especially since I have no time to attempt patriotic duds this year.
You need a quick gift and lucky for you, you know how to sew! Sewing gifts can be a fun and economical way to show your love and appreciation.

I really love your quilt. I’ve been thinking of making a quilt that way, with lots of white fabrics. You inspire me to start one right away. Thank you.
Is there an echo in here? I really really love the baby quilt. What a great take on a classic block – inspired and fresh…just as the other comments said. I love the interesting colors and patterns against the snow background. Sigh…
