Create This Look! Debut Dance-Off Dress
Good Morning & Welcome to our second installation of Create This Look brought to you by Caitlin from The Fabric Market! This time my inspiration was the “Debut Dance-Off Dress In Floral” from ModCloth. This dress is so pretty. I love vibrant the colors in the chiffon.
The pattern I chose for this dress is S2250 by Simplicity. I couldn’t find a pattern that had a scalloped sweetheart neckline, but I think the draping bodice detail makes up for it. I recommend using View B.
I picked out three different fabrics for you to create this dress. The first is a beautiful floral lightweight polyester. The inspiration dress uses chiffon, but the closest print we have is this floral poly. The colors are almost as vibrant & the best part is…no lining!
The second fabric is the lace for the bodice. I chose a very pretty polyester floral knit lace. I hope the pictures do it justice.
Since the lace is sheer, the third fabric I mentioned is an Ivory Poly/Cotton. The Poly/Cotton will also give you a nice stable base to drape the lace over. Then just add a belt & some accessories & your done!
Also try using this combination of fabrics to create this dress:

I think you should reconsider the choice of patterns. I bought this pattern because it was very cute. However, if one reads the Pattern Review entries concerning this pattern, sewing and even fitting it is a somewhat difficult and frustrating endeavour:

54 reviews and very few straight out recommend or highly recommend the pattern because of the bodice and bodice lining particuliarities.
I would suggest instead going with M7124’s bodice and adding scalops and spaghetti straps:

I really like the green/blue fabric. Do you know where we can get it and the names?
Hi Gina,
The fabric from the ModCloth dress? I have no idea how you’d figure that out – sorry! The links to the other fabric are in the post. Good luck!
xoxo,
Caroline
