My baby girl is growing up! This week I had an itch to do some garment sewing and Chloe really wanted a new dress… so we’re calling this her Easter dress for this year. Heaven knows that this time next month something will come up and I’ll be so glad it’s already done. 🙂
And she really is growing up too fast for me! She and I browsed my Ottobre Design sewing magazines together looking for inspiration for her new handmade dress and nothing in the children’s issues interested her. We found this lovely fitted dress in Women’s issue 02/2015 (it’s design #15) and the little pleated jacket in Women’s issue 02/2014 (design #8). I love my subscription so much!
Luckily, Chloe fit the smallest size and the only alterations I had to do were remove some of the length in the bodice and the skirt. I shortened the jacket about an inch also. Perfect!
So, what have you been sewing up this week? Did you make something with one of my free sewing tutorials or patterns? I would love to see! Tag me on Instagram @sewcanshe.

Be a basketmaker! Sure, you can sew, but did you know that you can make amazing baskets too using your sewing machine, some fabric and the same materials that you use for your other projects?
Have you fallen in love with Quilt as You Go yet? It’s a fun technique for quilts, of course, but I’m having lots of fun using it for pouches and tote bags too.
I’m so excited to share with you the pattern for our first mini quilt of 2018… Flora! This beautiful little quilt was designed by the very talented Lauren of Molly & Mama…
At my daughter Chloe’s high school (can you believe my baby started high school???), the lunch lines are so long that she has been skipping lunch! She’s always starving by the time she gets home because she doesn’t want to carry a big lunch bag as well as her heavy backpack – poor girl!
Looking for free table runner patterns? I gathered up all my favorites in one place – here are free quilt patterns for table runners for fall, winter, spring and summer!
I am so in love with the beautiful look of simple patchwork quilts with lots of squares. This is the perfect way to use up fabric scraps like I did, or you can make a beautifully coordinated quilt with pre-cut 2 1/2’’ square fabric pieces that come in mini-charm packs.
I’m also in love with the process. If you feel like quilt making is your escape from the world and sitting down to sew for a few hours makes your troubles fade away… this is the quilt for you!
Sew an easy beautiful apron with this free sewing pattern that only uses one yard of fabric! Whether you are sewing for yourself or for a friend, an apron always comes in handy and makes a great gift. This blog post includes a link to a free template that I digitized for you.

A great Cross Body Bag is a must. You will find free and easy DIY Cross-Body purses below with simple tutorials to follow and printable sewing instructions. Sometimes called a wallet on a string, these stylish accessories can hold it all, and keep you organized.
Last year I became so infatuated by Abby’s cute and informational blog While She Naps that I just had to reach out to her and try to make friends.
Turns out, she is so nice (and smart, but I already knew that). So we are trading guest posts… today I am on her blog talking about how SewCanShe came to be… and how you can build a valuable blog too.
My kids love rag quilts, and this is the best one I’ve made yet. At least according to them. I wrote last Saturday that they had it on a rotating schedule so everyone got a chance to sleep with it. They are now all snuggled up watching a movie under it, and I haven’t had the chance to enjoy it yet! Well, I really do enjoy seeing them use it so I guess that’s good enough for now.
Last week in our Show Off Saturday Linky Party I shared some pictures of my Juki sewing machine on a Grace Frame. To my delight, some of you shared pictures of your sewing machines and Grace Frames too! The most surprising picture in the linky party was by far the one that got the most clicks… it was a 15-91 Singer sewing machine loaded up on a frame.
For the past few months I’ve really been wanting another bag that I can keep all my ‘church stuff’ together. You know, stuff to keep the kids occupied plus all the stuff you’re expected to carry around if you do…
If you’re like me…you have a very special pair of sewing scissors that no one is allowed to use except you…:) Today’s Spotlight is a clever little zipper pouch to protect your favorite pair or sewing or crafting or any…
