Today as I was clearing away space on my sewing table so I could make room for some finished items (I know that sounds bad! I just have so many different projects going right now)…
My daughter Cadie asked me why I had her new little purse (the pink Triple Zip Bag) and other favorite things on my sewing table.
I told her that I was getting ready to make a studio chat video.
Then (without being asked) she started arranging all the items neatly the way she thought they looked good.
So I had an idea… and I asked Cadie if she wanted to film the studio chat for me!
The video is so cute… and totally unscripted.
Either she has been watching my videos on YouTube or some things are unwittingly passed down from one generation to the next.
Because everyone says she sounds just like me!!! The video is above and shown on YouTube here.
If you want to make the things she is showing you in the video, here are the links:
Thank you to everyone who asked when I was going to make another studio chat… It would have been today if it weren’t for Cadie stealing the show, he he… but I’m sure you’ll see me again very soon!

Be a basketmaker! Sure, you can sew, but did you know that you can make amazing baskets too using your sewing machine, some fabric and the same materials that you use for your other projects?
Have you fallen in love with Quilt as You Go yet? It’s a fun technique for quilts, of course, but I’m having lots of fun using it for pouches and tote bags too.
I’m so excited to share with you the pattern for our first mini quilt of 2018… Flora! This beautiful little quilt was designed by the very talented Lauren of Molly & Mama…
At my daughter Chloe’s high school (can you believe my baby started high school???), the lunch lines are so long that she has been skipping lunch! She’s always starving by the time she gets home because she doesn’t want to carry a big lunch bag as well as her heavy backpack – poor girl!
Looking for free table runner patterns? I gathered up all my favorites in one place – here are free quilt patterns for table runners for fall, winter, spring and summer!
I am so in love with the beautiful look of simple patchwork quilts with lots of squares. This is the perfect way to use up fabric scraps like I did, or you can make a beautifully coordinated quilt with pre-cut 2 1/2’’ square fabric pieces that come in mini-charm packs.
I’m also in love with the process. If you feel like quilt making is your escape from the world and sitting down to sew for a few hours makes your troubles fade away… this is the quilt for you!
Sew an easy beautiful apron with this free sewing pattern that only uses one yard of fabric! Whether you are sewing for yourself or for a friend, an apron always comes in handy and makes a great gift. This blog post includes a link to a free template that I digitized for you.

“Ooh, you SHOP for a living? That must be much be so much fun!”
When I tell people about my job—costume design and styling for the entertainment industry— and that much of the work revolves around shopping, they are often amazed to learn that such a position even exists. And when I explain that “shopper” is an actual job title, and that pretty much every theatrical production, film, and television show employs one or more shoppers, I’m often presented with questions about what the job entails, or how to get into the field.
It’s been ages since we’ve had a Sewing 201 post, hasn’t it? Well I’ve been sewing lots of knit binding on little knit tee shirts and dresses lately so I thought I’d show my process.
You can sew knit binding if your pattern calls for it, or as a substitute for facing or a typical ribbed neckline. If you are substituting it for a different edge finish, trim away the seam allowance.
Hi sewing friends! This is Sarah from Blue Susan Makes signing on to share a fun sewing book with you today. Sew Fun by Deborah Fisher just came out from Interweave Press and you can find out more about it {here}. This book is just what the title says, SEW FUN… full of sewing projects to make with your family.
One of my favorite things about this book is that it has tips on how the let your kids help with the creating on each project as well as a section that teaches YOU how to have FUN sewing with children.
Hey everybody! I didn’t have a blog post scheduled for today, but I got such an unexpected treat over the weekend, that I wanted to share. On Saturday we popped into our favorite thrift store with the kids (the one…
Isn’t this project irresistible? These little tree stump poufs are perfect for your little one’s reading corner, play area, or even slid underneath your coffee table! They are the perfect floor cushion or pillow for kids. And there’s a free…
It can be hard to sew for a tween, but I am not worried. Chloe is getting a new Kindle (because she’s a total bookworm) and to go with it I sewed her a Zip It Up Case.

What an awesome video! "Really, Mom?!" and then her smile – SO CUTE! Cadie makes a great salesperson – definitely makes me want to sew some pouches xx.
What an adorable girl. She has been watching her mom. But I can see her own personality popping out also. Great job Cadie. Look forward to seeing more.
OMG! Cadie is such a cutie and did a remarkable job with no script or preparation. I look forward to seeing future "chats" from her. And I’ll bet she sews too.
Oh Caroline she is so wonderful, really so well done. She has a future in presenting and you can just hear in her voice how proud she is of you. Thank you for sharing this. It’s just such a joy.
