Reverse applique is a great way to add pizzaz to pre-made and hand made items. It’s different from traditional applique because the applique fabric is attached under the main fabric on the item instead of over it.
It’s getting a little buggy over here… but not the bad kind of bugs – the cute kind! My friend Rosie of Bustle & Sew is sharing a free sewing pattern to make this throw pillow that’s covered in adorable bugs!
Sew names, phrases, or cute designs to personalize beach towels! This easy sewing project makes a great gift. If you have a fabric cutter you can use it, but it’s totally not needed to make cute alphabet letters and more, and then applique them to a towel or other item.
Do you ever buy the cutest novelty fabric because you can’t stand to go home without it, and then later you wonder, how will I ever use this? I don’t really want a quilt with {insert whatever cuteness is on the fabric} but I love it so much anyway!
Well, here’s your solution, cut those adorable somethings out of your novelty fabric and applique them onto something else. Like a t-shirt, t-shirt dress, pant leg (knee patch), tote bag, zipper pouch, whatever! I love applique because it makes just about anything cuter.
It’s been so so long since I gave away a free appliqué pattern! Well, let’s change that. It’s time to sew up holiday decorations, tea towels, tree skirts, tee shirts, and more! What would look cuter on them than a sweet Holly & Berries Appliqué?
My kids are crazy about foxes right now. All due to a certain YouTube video that my sister decided to show them. Now they each sing their own version of ‘what does the fox say’ most of the day long. Cadie sings ‘wake up the fox, now’ (she can’t read the subtitles).
I love to applique! It’s such a fun way to liven up a project… just about any project. To prove it, I made a list of my 10 favorite places to put an applique. All the patterns in this blog post are free, too. Just click on the photos below to get them. So let’s countdown…
Have you noticed our SewCanShe Applique of the Month Club is not really a club… you just need to stop by and see the free applique design each month? But it’s fun to call it a club like we are all getting together to applique, right?
So here’s our design this month. I wanted to share with you some butterflies like the one that I put on my butterfly quilt (except that one is huge, lol!). I was inspired to sew a butterfly when I imagined her wings filled with my favorite scrappy prints.
This little flower design is close to my heart. I’ve made three versions of it now. My original flower had over 20 petals! In order to make it easier for everyone, I changed the flower head design, making 3 layers of petals and each layer is a single pattern piece. That’s where I got the idea of ‘Firecracker Flower’ because it overlaps and bursts open like a firecracker.
