Learn how to quilt a pretty arc flower motif. Let me show you how to quilt this arc motif in a square using a 4’’ arc ruler – plus I’ll show you how to quilt it without a quilting ruler too. This pretty quilting motif looks elaborate, but it’s actually very easy to quilt and can be quilted in squares of all sizes.
This easy quilting design looks fabulous in our Color By Number Quilt.
Before quilting this easy motif, I marked the center of my square and the center of all 4 sides. These quick marks gave me somewhere to ‘aim’ for when I was quilting my arcs.
Then I showed you how to quilt the arc flower motif using the 4’’ arc that came in Template Set #1 from Sew Steady.
I also used my Multi Clamshell tool from HandiQuilter, because the 4’’ clamshell on that tool is also a 4’’ arc.
And, of course, I showed you how to quilt this exact same design without using a quilting ruler at all. Did my non-ruler arc flower look just as good? I guess you’ll have to watch to find out!
The Week 11 Color By Number video should start playing in the video player on this page automatically. If it doesn’t, you can find it on my YouTube channel here.

Have you fallen in love with Quilt as You Go yet? It’s a fun technique for quilts, of course, but I’m having lots of fun using it for pouches and tote bags too.
I’m so excited to share with you the pattern for our first mini quilt of 2018… Flora! This beautiful little quilt was designed by the very talented Lauren of Molly & Mama…
At my daughter Chloe’s high school (can you believe my baby started high school???), the lunch lines are so long that she has been skipping lunch! She’s always starving by the time she gets home because she doesn’t want to carry a big lunch bag as well as her heavy backpack – poor girl!

I am so in love with the beautiful look of simple patchwork quilts with lots of squares. This is the perfect way to use up fabric scraps like I did, or you can make a beautifully coordinated quilt with pre-cut 2 1/2’’ square fabric pieces that come in mini-charm packs.
I’m also in love with the process. If you feel like quilt making is your escape from the world and sitting down to sew for a few hours makes your troubles fade away… this is the quilt for you!
Sew an easy beautiful apron with this free sewing pattern that only uses one yard of fabric! Whether you are sewing for yourself or for a friend, an apron always comes in handy and makes a great gift. This blog post includes a link to a free template that I digitized for you.

Last year Abby Glassenberg and I made friends online and decided it would be fun to guest post on each other’s blogs. So last month I was over there at While She Naps sharing a little bit about how to make your blog valuable to readers, and now here she is here giving us tips for making great softies. In case you are not already a fan of Abby’s you will be soon! She is the designer of some of the cutest softie patterns I’ve ever seen, plus she’s the author of several books
Did you know that animal shelters often use small quilts or blankets (called cage comforters) in the animals’ cages to provide a soft bed and a sense of security? It’s a great way to use up leftover pieces of fabric and batting and make something to help our furry friends at the shelters. It’s kinda funny how I learned about this project…
Welcome to our SewCanShe sewalong! Can I tell you how awesome this is already? And we are just getting started so you have plenty of time to join in. Our facebook group has been so busy I can’t keep up. Forgive me if I only check in there once a day. But I can tell that you don’t really need me because all of you sweeties are showing off your fabric picks, sharing advice, and making new sewing friends. It makes me so happy every time I visit.
I’m so happy with my new purse I can hardly contain myself. I’ve made a few bags before, but none of them have turned out so cute or professional looking. Maybe it’s the real leather handles that I used for…
It can be hard to sew for a tween, but I am not worried. Chloe is getting a new Kindle (because she’s a total bookworm) and to go with it I sewed her a Zip It Up Case.
True story. Saturday I must have felt like I’m already on bff terms with Bonnie of Fishsticks Designs (having met her in real life once now). In a moment of frustration that a certain commercial pattern only went up to…

Thank you so much for this quilt-a-long! Sewing, especially quilting, is like therapy for me- a welcome getaway from a stressful job! I have never quilted with rulers and it is great to learn something new. I haven’t done a lot of free motion quilting either, just in the ditch, so I appreciate your work! I don’t do much social media, and I tried to send you an e-mail, but it won’t send. I hope you get this. I love all your tutorials and patterns and have made several. Thank you soooo much, keep up the good work! We appreciate YOU!
