I’m so excited to share with you Big City Bags written by my friend Sara who blogs over at Sew Sweetness. Sara designs bags and purses (among other things) that are extremely useful and straightforward in construction. In addition to Big City Bags (which comes out this month), Sara has a line of pdf sewing patterns too.
If you had been at my house when my husband was putting the kids in the car to drive me to the airport for my flight to Quilt Market last week… you would have seen me sewing. Yup. Him putting the kids in the car and me still sewing. I was remembering how silly I felt at my first Quilt Market (last year) because all of the more seasoned ‘marketeers’ had beautiful lanyards. I just had the rubber string that was free. And I didn’t want that to happen again.
The quilt above is a beautiful work by Kaffe Fasset from the gallery part of Quilt Market. That part was quiet and meditative, almost like church. I loved it.

What happens when you find a pattern that you love??? You make all versions of it, of course. Last month when the latest Ottobre Design came in the mail (women’s issue 5/2013), I was so intrigued by a raglan tee with shoulder darts. I’ve sewn lots and lots of raglan tees for my kids, and none of them had shoulder darts. I know that raglan patterns for woven fabrics usually have darts, but this was a knit. I just had to try it.
