Okay, maybe I’m not unboxing this glamorous sewing machine right this very minute – but my 16 year old son made a video of me opening it up and taking it out, so this moment is immortalized forever!
In the video I tell you a little bit about what led me to buy such an expensive item from an eBay seller in another country – of all things!
Fortunately, the German eBay seller Nahweltis legitimate and even though it took me nearly 6 painful weeks to get this sewing machine – it finally did come! It was stuck in U.S. Customs for 3 of those weeks. Naehwelt have an online shop too, and I might just order accessories from them (if I can stand to wait, lol).
I was able to embed most of the unboxing video in the video player on this page. It should start automatically.
The entire video includes me unboxing the embroidery unit and hoops.
You can watch it on my YouTube channel here and you’ll hear what I think about what Bernina calls a ‘large’ hoop!
And I’d love for you to tell me – do you use a knee lift on your sewing machine too?
Do you also consider it a ‘must have’ or do you think its just an annoying feature that makes a sewing machine more expensive? Tell me in the comments, I’m so curious!
Thanks for watching my videos. You are the best readers ever!

Have you fallen in love with Quilt as You Go yet? It’s a fun technique for quilts, of course, but I’m having lots of fun using it for pouches and tote bags too.
I’m so excited to share with you the pattern for our first mini quilt of 2018… Flora! This beautiful little quilt was designed by the very talented Lauren of Molly & Mama…
At my daughter Chloe’s high school (can you believe my baby started high school???), the lunch lines are so long that she has been skipping lunch! She’s always starving by the time she gets home because she doesn’t want to carry a big lunch bag as well as her heavy backpack – poor girl!
Looking for free table runner patterns? I gathered up all my favorites in one place – here are free quilt patterns for table runners for fall, winter, spring and summer!
I am so in love with the beautiful look of simple patchwork quilts with lots of squares. This is the perfect way to use up fabric scraps like I did, or you can make a beautifully coordinated quilt with pre-cut 2 1/2’’ square fabric pieces that come in mini-charm packs.
I’m also in love with the process. If you feel like quilt making is your escape from the world and sitting down to sew for a few hours makes your troubles fade away… this is the quilt for you!
Sew an easy beautiful apron with this free sewing pattern that only uses one yard of fabric! Whether you are sewing for yourself or for a friend, an apron always comes in handy and makes a great gift. This blog post includes a link to a free template that I digitized for you.

Sew up a beautiful Irish Chain Quilt with a Christmas theme! This free pattern is for a generous 77’’ x 77’’ size throw quilt, but you could easily make it larger or smaller. There are two main blocks that I use in an alternating pattern – plus red and cream colored sashing.
What happens when you find a pattern that you love??? You make all versions of it, of course. Last month when the latest Ottobre Design came in the mail (women’s issue 5/2013), I was so intrigued by a raglan tee with shoulder darts. I’ve sewn lots and lots of raglan tees for my kids, and none of them had shoulder darts. I know that raglan patterns for woven fabrics usually have darts, but this was a knit. I just had to try it.
This fabric pod basket pattern will help you organize things in every room in the house! I love these storage pods in my sewing room for notions and tools. They make great craft containers and look adorable on a peg…
Sew an easy Friendship Star Quilt using my free quilt pattern! Let me show you how to make half square triangle units two at a time. Then you’ll sew them together with some squares and viola… A Friendship Star block….
Learn how to sew an easy wallet that’s great for kids or adults. This free sewing pattern for a Fold and Stitch Wallet has two card slots and a money pocket on the inside. I love my knee lift. I learned to use it when I first got my Bernina and every time I am on a machine without one, I miss it. Mine is not the best one, some "kink" in it, but I love it!
