Cadie has taken to reading my Ottobre magazines and placing orders. There is a sticky note on nearly every page these days, showing me what she wants. Anyway, we love that little raglan tee that’s #12 in Issue 3/2013. It has sweet details like ribbed cuffs and a piece of ribbon on the neckline. Plus the fit is spot on, like all the Ottobre patterns I’ve ever sewn. I sewed this one a little big on purpose so it will fit for a couple seasons. This little outfit was made with Euro knit fabrics from L’oisseau Fabrics.
My photos didn’t turn out very cute until she caught a frog on the other side of the fence. Fun for a minute and then she realized…
that her little fist wouldn’t fit back out between the slats. Oi! A real monkey trap! Luckily that sneaky frog slipped out of her hand and she got free too.
And you can’t really see them, but her matching shorts are from the Ashland skirt/coulottes pattern by Monaluna Designs. That pattern has three really awesome variations.
So, what have you been sewing up this week? Did you make something with one of my free sewing tutorials or patterns? I would love to see! Tag me on Instagram @sewcanshe.
Sew an organizer covered with pockets that you can hang in your closet! This easy sewing project is great for organizing sewing and craft supplies, fashion accessories, bathroom necessities, gift wrappings, and more. There are pockets on both sides plus a big interior pocket so every bit of space is used. I’ll show you easy step by step instructions for sewing this organizer and putting it to use in your home. Get sew organized today.
Are you sewing a Closet Organizer with me? I hope so! This is Part 2 of our free sewing tutorial for an amazing organizer with a coat hanger inside so you can hang it anywhere.
If you are getting started, make sure you start at Part 1 of the free pattern.
Be a basketmaker! Sure, you can sew, but did you know that you can make amazing baskets too using your sewing machine, some fabric and the same materials that you use for your other projects?
Have you fallen in love with Quilt as You Go yet? It’s a fun technique for quilts, of course, but I’m having lots of fun using it for pouches and tote bags too.
I’m so excited to share with you the pattern for our first mini quilt of 2018… Flora! This beautiful little quilt was designed by the very talented Lauren of Molly & Mama…
At my daughter Chloe’s high school (can you believe my baby started high school???), the lunch lines are so long that she has been skipping lunch! She’s always starving by the time she gets home because she doesn’t want to carry a big lunch bag as well as her heavy backpack – poor girl!
Looking for free table runner patterns? I gathered up all my favorites in one place – here are free quilt patterns for table runners for fall, winter, spring and summer!
I am so in love with the beautiful look of simple patchwork quilts with lots of squares. This is the perfect way to use up fabric scraps like I did, or you can make a beautifully coordinated quilt with pre-cut 2 1/2’’ square fabric pieces that come in mini-charm packs.
I’m also in love with the process. If you feel like quilt making is your escape from the world and sitting down to sew for a few hours makes your troubles fade away… this is the quilt for you!
Sew an easy beautiful apron with this free sewing pattern that only uses one yard of fabric! Whether you are sewing for yourself or for a friend, an apron always comes in handy and makes a great gift. This blog post includes a link to a free template that I digitized for you.

We’re highlighting the winner of this weeks Show Off Saturday linky party a day early to make room for a super special blog post coming your way in Friday:) Stephanie from Swoodson Says wrote an awesome blog post about her…
Sew up a double sided wallet to hold your face masks, hand sanitizer, and all the essentials – this one pocketbook is all you need! There’s also a narrow wrist strap that connects with a d-ring tab. The face mask in the photos is one that I sewed using my Pleated Face Mask with a Filter Pocket Tutorial.
I made another pink peplum! The first was cute {see it here} and I got lots of sweet feedback (thank you!), but I’m not really comfortable wearing it because the neckline is so big. I feel awkward in it unless I wear a tank underneath, and that defeats the purpose of a cute knit top to throw on.
Sew an easy drawstring bag that’s long and skinny! It is the perfect size for spectacles, a tooth brush and toothpaste, pencils, or even make up brushes. These pouches are so handy and pretty –which is the essence of ‘Zakka’, a Japanese design aesthetic that combines usefulness with beauty.
I LOVE butterflies. There’s just something about how they transform from a squirmy caterpillar to a beautiful flying creature that inspires me.
So the other day I was experimenting with gridded interfacing (the same product that I use in my Craftsy class Colorful Patchwork Bags and Baskets), and I decided to see how a little quilt would turn out with it. I used tiny 1” squares that finished at 1/2” – eeek!
Sew up a beautiful Irish Chain Quilt with a Christmas theme! This free pattern is for a generous 77’’ x 77’’ size throw quilt, but you could easily make it larger or smaller. There are two main blocks that I use in an alternating pattern – plus red and cream colored sashing.

Ahh!! I love love love Ottobre. I have three years worth of back issues from when my little girl was a toddler. I can’t bear to pass them on even though I don’t sew from them anymore. Maybe for my grandkids in 15 years?? lol
