Sometimes it takes a long time to finish a quilt. Almost a year ago, I got my Juki TL-010Q. My poor family… I spent the whole day figuring it out and playing with scraps to get used to how fast it sews. Then I ordered pizza for dinner. 🙂
After dinner I spent all evening and into the wee hours of the night sewing this Amy Butler Alchemy quilt top. I had a fat quarter bundle that got entirely cut into random pieces and sewn together bit by bit until the quilt emerged. Needless to say, my husband went to bed without me and I tip toed into bed hours later, not tired but feeling exhilarated with my new machine. Only my sewing friends will understand. 🙂
Then that quilt went into my ‘pile O’tops’ until I felt inspired last week to quilt it with wavy lines. And this week I finished the binding while getting caught up on Downton Abbey. Yes, I love to snuggle under quilts and bind while I watch TV.
This is the first quilt I’ve made that I’m keeping for myself. I’ve made quilts for everyone else in the family and I think I deserve it.
Besides, I could never giveaway this fabric. <3
So, what have you been sewing up this week? Did you make something with one of my free sewing tutorials or patterns? I would love to see! Tag me on Instagram @sewcanshe.

At my daughter Chloe’s high school (can you believe my baby started high school???), the lunch lines are so long that she has been skipping lunch! She’s always starving by the time she gets home because she doesn’t want to carry a big lunch bag as well as her heavy backpack – poor girl!

I am so in love with the beautiful look of simple patchwork quilts with lots of squares. This is the perfect way to use up fabric scraps like I did, or you can make a beautifully coordinated quilt with pre-cut 2 1/2’’ square fabric pieces that come in mini-charm packs.
I’m also in love with the process. If you feel like quilt making is your escape from the world and sitting down to sew for a few hours makes your troubles fade away… this is the quilt for you!

I've been feeling so bogged down and harried lately with a million things to do at once and nothing getting finished until the last minute that I decided it was time to take a breath and change something. The thing that needed to be changed was the gigantic pile of fabric, paper, patterns, books, notions, tools, and lots and lots of scraps that was stifling any creativity I might have felt.
I love sewing swimsuits for my kids. It’s a great way to use up pieces of knit fabric that are a yard or lessI let my girls pick patterns for new swimsuits this summer and they both picked out swimsuits from Peek-a-Boo Pattern Shop.. Amy has a great way of making each step easy to understand and she has so many different swimsuit patterns to choose from.
It’s that time of year to start thinking of holiday gifts… and for those of us who sew, it’s time to actually sew them! On this Show Off Saturday, I thought I’d share some of my most successful little gifty projects and the tutorials or patterns that I used to make them.
Then you can share your most successful little gifty projects too in our linky party!
August always feel wild to me. Rebelliously hot weather, end-of-summer reckless activities, and ‘devil may care’ resistance to what is ultimately coming – the return to civilized, structured, and scheduled life.
