Pattern Review: The Mini Tulip Tote!
Isn’t this bag adorable? My friend Sarah who co-authored Just For You with me has finally released her first pattern and I’m so excited for her.
Here is my Mini Tulip Tote. I’ve had it for over a year (she took a long time to release this pattern!) and this little bag has gotten lots of use. For a while it was my designated ‘church bag’ because I love having a small purse that I can carry just a few things in.
But then I discovered that it was a perfect ‘grab and go’ camera bag. Now all of you professional photographers are going to freak out. There’s no room for extra lenses and the bag doesn’t zip up so if it tipped over, the camera would probably fall out.
BUT, I am not a professional photographer. I might take my camera out to photograph my kids at the park or the beach, but I don’t use it every day. I have a big padded camera bag, but it’s a pain to carry around and I never change lenses when I’m out anyway. I love carrying my DSLR camera in this little bag when I go somewhere. The stabilizer in this bag is By Annie’s Soft and Stable, which gives it a cushiony feel. The stabilizer is about 1/4” thick by itself, and the bag has lots of gathers for padding too.
I can even snap the magnetic snaps with my camera in the tote. 🙂
But if your camera is larger than my Nikon D4100 you might not be able to.
Anyway, Sarah’s pattern instructions are clear and concise (her no-nonsense writing style was one of the reasons I wanted to write a book with her). She even shares how to make her adorable bag pockets. Love them!
See more Mini Tulip Totes in Sarah’s blog post here. The pattern is available for purchase in the Blue Susan Makes Etsy Shop.
The giveaway has now ended. Congrats to Kristen – who gets a copy of the pattern!
Happy Sewing!

I’m a machine embroiderer and a grandmother. So I like to sew a variety of things, from totes, kids clothes, table linen, etc etc etc.
Bags, wallets, zippered cases… I love them all, especially with extra pockets. The many pocket option is great. Even small bags need some organization.

Bags and string piecing
I like making bags, totes or anything inbetween, mainly fairly quick projects that are attractive and useful. This bag seems to fit all of my wishes and also for a gift to a lucky person.
I like to sew purses and stuffed toys and dolls. My friend has gotten me into doing cosplay costumes which is alright but I much prefer purses – so many possibilities to make them your own. Love the Tulip Bag. It’s so cute — and I already have some Annie Soft and Stable!

Simple, practical items like bins and bags that are less about being fancy and fashionable and more about getting a job done. "Library bags" aka big sturdy bags are especially my favorite.

Anything with straight seams. I am way more comfortable with knitting needles than a sewing machine!
Now that my children are grown I find that I enjoy sewing for myself. I prefer the styles from the late 40’s and 50’s so I use a lot of vintage patterns. It’s fun scouting around on places like Etsy looking for just the right pattern. I love this purse. Thank you for the chance.

I am determined to learn how to make bags, but fior now I have to stick with quilts of all sizes and baby things of course. Thanks for sharing giveaway.
I love making quilts.
I love making totes and am learning to make quilts.
I love to make many things. Love to make totes, covered books, table runners and quilts. Probably my favorite is smaller projects and I use them for gifts.
I love to make quilts. So far, I have made them for friends, family, and those in need of something to remind them that people care. I hope that when they wrap themselves up in their quilt they will remember love went into each quilt. I am finally working on a quilt for my husband and myself. It feels so rewarding to finish each quilt and know that they are as special as the person that it was made for.
When I can snatch the time, I enjoy making quilts, aprons, home decorating items, totes and purses.
Tote bags, accessories.
Well, this a most classy bag, I love it. Lots of Pzazzz. And appears just to be the right size.
Such a cute bag! Would love the pattern to this project. 🙂
