Two Sewing Besties at play…. we made the Ultimate Travel Bag!
What happens when two crafty gals who love to sew get together? They let their kids have a Star Wars marathon so they can make something! Last weekend my friend Heather came into town with her family and we were not lazy. We stitched up an Ultimate Travel Bag. The pattern is by Annie Unrien.
Look at how beautiful it turned out! I must say that we outdid ourselves here. Heather brought with her this gorgeous Tula Pink fabric plus all of the notions.

That’s Heather over there sewing away on the Ultimate Travel Bag.
My contribution was a room to sew in…

And a computer to watch Annie’s videos as we went along.

Everything about this bag is meticulously designed. Even though Heather and I consider ourselves expert sewists, we picked up a ton of tricks and techniques for sewing bags.
The piece above was a quilted pocket. Can you believe how pretty it is?

There are mesh pockets on the inside (because mesh doesn’t add bulk to the seams)…

And a sweet strap to hold this bag on your other luggage.

We added a little perk of our own design… a hidden vinyl pocket for business cards.

Conclusion: It truly is the Ultimate Travel Bag!

After we allowed our husbands to oooh and ahhh for an appropriate amount of time, we had to decide…

Who should have it? 🙂

Just kidding! It was for Heather all along. Check out Annie’s brilliant pattern to sew your own!
Happy sewing!

Looks stunning! I have the class but I haven’t watched it yet, I’m too intimidated. Unlike you, I’m a really new bag sewer, I’ve done a few simple zipper bags. (I quilt, mostly.) Would you say this project is doable for someone with very limited experience in bags, if they watch the class?
Yes, it is totally do-able if you watch the class. Annie is a very thorough teacher. Have fun!
I’ve made one of Annie’s bags before and although not simple by any means, it is high quality and so cute! I have her yoga bag cut out and ready to go to sew this weekend with my two quilty friends. I can’t wait! Great job ladies👍🏻It’s sooo cute!!!
Your bag is beautiful! Thank you for posting pictures that give a good idea of it’s sizing. I bought this class last month but haven’t moved forward making yet…I think I need to seriously get working on it!
Its beautiful! I love it!
The bag is beautiful. Sure looks like you two had a lot of fun.
Wowzer! That bag turned out gorgeous — just like both of you! Thanks for the shout-out and congrats on an absolutely beautiful Ultimate Travel Bag. What fun that you could enjoy each other’s company while you sewed, too. That’s just about as perfect as it can get!
What a great way to spend time with a best friend! Now do you have plans for another sewing retreat to make one for you?? It’s a gorgeous bag–with such attention to how the fabric plays!
Looks like a fun weekend and great bag!
Im not sure how to post a picture bit I completed Ultimate Travel Bag. I used Annie’s Craftsy class but I also attended a class at Above & Beyond, my local quilt shop in Centennial, CO where 8 of us all made the bag. My fabrics were from Denver Fabrics; the batik is a little heavier weight than quilting cotton so I felt it would give some extra strength to a bag that might get knocked around. I scotchguarded it and it has survived a cruise to the Panama Canal beautifully. I am now using it as my tool bag to go to sewing groups — I put too much time and effort into it to let it just languish until I get to go on a trip again. Anyhow, I’m just so proud that f myself I could just bust!
Sweet! I understand how proud you are – finishing this bag feels like such an accomplishment! xoxo
Love the bag and the choice of fabric makes all the difference.
How fun it is to sew with our besties! My sister and I have been sewing 1 day a week lately. My bestie and I try to get together 1 day a week to sew. I made the Ultimate Travel bag last year to take on my cruise. I loved using it for traveling. I have also used it to carry my Singer Featherweight machine to my sons house so I could do some sewing for my daughter-in-love. It’s a really handy bag to have and looks so nice. I love the fabric choices you used!
I have already started a second bag! They are kind of addictive!
Firstly, i truly enjoy your bogs, your projects, and your great tutorials. You are one of the first Go-to emails I go to when I open my email.
The studio made me drool……🤤🤤🤤
The bag is beautiful and sooooo professional looking. Just a quick message to say ‘I appreciate all of what you do and let us enjoy seeing and learning!’
