DIY Tiny Quilt Magnets!
How’s this for a tiny mini quilt? We’ve been having so much fun making mini quilts lately (see my Mini Quilts Pinterest Board) that I decided to see how tiny I could make a mini. These tiny quilts turned out so cute, less than 2” tall and perfect for DIY magnets.

So here’s a great project for using all your favorite little scraps – make little magnets for your fridge, dishwasher, bulletin board, and everywhere else they will stick!

Tiny Quilt Magnets also make great gifts because who couldn’t use a cute magnet from their favorite quilty friend?
To make 4 Tiny Quilt Magnets, you will need:
-
4 squares of fabric 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” (2 light and 2 dark)
-
1 square of backing fabric 5” x 5”
-
1 square of craft felt 5” x 5” (quilt batting would work too, but craft felt holds together better without binding, so that’s what I used)
-
pencil or fabric marking pen
-
quilt basting spray (I use Thermoweb Spray n Bond)
-
pinking shears for the edges
-
glue gun and glue stick
1. Draw a diagonal line across the back of the light squares. Place the light squares on top of the dark squares, right sides together.
2. Sew along both sides of the line, 1/4” away from the line. Cut the squares in half along the line.
Press the seams toward the darker fabrics and open the squares. These are half square triangles!
3. Place the half square triangle squares right sides together, with light against dark and the seams nested. Draw a diagonal line across each set of squares.
Sew 1/4” away from both sides of the lines. Cut the squares apart along the line.
Press the seams in alternating directions to make a cute little pinwheel on the back. 🙂
These are now tiny Quarter Square Triangles! Trim away the dog ears, if you like.
4. Use quilt basting spray to adhere the tiny Quarter Square Triangles to the 5” square of craft felt.
Use the spray to also adhere the 5” square of fabric to the back of the felt piece.
5. Quilt each little square by sewing 1/4” away from the seams and around the squares, 1/4” inside each outer edge.
6. Use pinking shears to cut out and trim each tiny quilt.
7. Using the hot glue gun, glue a craft magnet to the back of each tiny quilt.
Done! But I’m sure you will be making lots more… they are so fast and fun!
