Free motion quilt a fern in a square with this fun and easy quilting design. I love how the curvy lines give it a lively organic feel, and every fern you quilt will look a little bit different – that’s part of the beauty of it!

This is week 14 in our Color By Number Quiltalong where we are free motion quilting a new designs each week on our Color By Number Quilt (free quilt pattern)! Find all of the CBN Quiltalong videos here.

This beautiful design can be adapted to square areas on any quilt. Our blocks are 4 1/2’’ square, but you could easily quilt larger or smaller ferns on another quilt too.

It looks so pretty next to our free motion Sunburst Design that we quilted in our last quilt along video.

I hope you agree with me that part of the beauty of this design is that each fern is a little bit different.

And of course I’m using my straight edge ruler to travel in the ditch from block to block.
