17+ FREE Easter Basket Patterns and Ideas You Can Sew in an Afternoon!

|

Fabric basket patterns are some of the most versatile projects I share. They are a joy to sew because they are accessible for beginners but produce a high-quality result that looks beautiful in any home. While I especially love seeing these in spring pastels and vibrant florals, the design itself works for any holiday. I’ve seen them look just as stunning in deep autumnal golds for Thanksgiving or classic reds and greens for Christmas.

For me, spring is the ultimate season for handmade gifting. It’s exciting to replace the colors of winter with a fresh, handmade world of earthy flowers and sunshine. I’ve selected these free fabric basket patterns because they are more than just holiday decor—they are durable, useful gifts that your family and friends can use for years. They are the perfect way to turn a few favorite fabrics into a meaningful tradition.

Pro-Tip: a Personal Touch

For a truly high-quality finish, consider adding a small personalized detail to each basket. A simple hand-embroidered name on the lining or a decorative wooden tag tied to the handle makes these feel like instant family heirlooms. Since these are reusable, choosing timeless fabrics means they can be brought out year after year as a beloved part of your family’s Spring traditions.

Ayumi’s Fabric Basket

A patchwork fabric basket is my favorite way to turn a cherished scrap pile into something both beautiful and functional. Can you see the hidden bunnies on the lining fabric? This beautiful basket is sturdy enough to hold Easter together, and then be used for nursery essentials. The patchwork design adds a layer of handmade charm that a single fabric just can’t replicate.

I am completely charmed by these oversized bunny baskets and their floppy ear handles. This easy sewing tutorial is one of my favorites because it uses Kraft-Tex on the outside for a sturdy, paper-like finish and soft faux fur for the lining. It’s a wonderful project if you want to create a high-quality gift that feels extra special and unique. I found that the combination of textures makes the basket feel durable yet surprisingly cuddly—a perfect addition to any spring tradition.

Why not make a basket that can be used as an organizing bin after Easter? My fat quarter-sized fold-up baskets are very cute, and I think the name explains everything. You need just a fat quarter of fabric for each side, and they fold up for easy storage when not in use. I also show you different stitches to use for finishing the edges of these fabric basket patterns for Easter and beyond.

Pro-Tip: Seasonal Color Transitions

While pastels are a classic choice for Spring, the trend for 2026 is moving toward “Earth-Toned Easter.” Mixing soft sage greens, dusty terracottas, and muted ochres with traditional florals creates a sophisticated look. This palette allows the basket to transition easily into home decor or nursery organization once the holiday is over, making it a gift that stays useful all year long.
