Sewing Christmas Softies - a cute robot, dolls, and a free fox pattern

It’s a good thing that my kids don’t read my blog, lol! It has been their last week of school before Christmas break and I have spent nearly every day sewing toys. I’ve made two robots, an Anna & Elsa, and a cute fox. Two are from patterns I purchased, and one was a free tutorial.

Get ready for the adorableness…

Of all of them, these robots are my favorite. They just have so much personality! Their arms and legs flop all over the place so they are totally posable. And they’ll make great travel pillows when we go on our after-Christmas road trip.

The pattern is Rupert the Robot from indie sewing and knitting designer DangerCrafts. Seriously she wants to make me learn how to knit too, her patterns are so cute.

For Cadie I stitched up two more dolls from the Mae Pattern from Bit Of Whimsy Dolls. In case you can’t tell, I turned them into Anna And Elsa. And I gave Anna raspberry colored hair. I loved that color of felt so much I could help it. I made the braids from 1” and 1/2” strips of felt sewn together, so Cadie will be able to unbraid and braid the hair all day long. I was probably thinking of our road trip when I made these too. Hmmmm.

Last but not least, I had to make a fox. This dapper fellow is from a free tutorial and pattern over at Stitched by Crystal.

Paula on Instagram asked me what kind of fabric he’s made with and it’s not a short answer, so I’m going to tell you here.

About a year ago I had this idea that I was going to dye some warm & natural quilt batting. I decided not to make a quilt with it and I ended up with a huge piece of soft and wrinkly and deep orange quilt batting. It has really interesting texture and was perfect for my fox.

You can see the texture better in this in-process picture. By using an unusual textile I’m following one of Abby Glassenburg’s ‘5 Tips for sewing great softies.’ 🙂
