I’m already of fan of all the It’s Sew Emma books (they are delightful to read and easy to use), so ‘Fat Quarter Baby’ fits right into my collection.
The book contains 20 baby quilts – 10 named after girls and 10 named after boys.
My quilt is the first of the 10 ‘girly’ quilts and it features the classic churn dash block in a clever new arrangement.
As you can see, I decided to see what would happen if I switched the light and dark fabrics in my quilt. For the churn dashes and the borders I used ‘Tiger Stripes’ in 4 different colors (Alexia Abegg for Cotton + Steel). The background is a couple navy blue prints also from Cotton + Steel.
I quilted it with an all over meandering design – can you see the hearts I ‘drew’ in? This quilt is meant for a baby, after all. Why not sew some love into it?
There are so many adorable quilts in Fat Quarter Baby – I can’t wait until I need to use it again!

Have you fallen in love with Quilt as You Go yet? It’s a fun technique for quilts, of course, but I’m having lots of fun using it for pouches and tote bags too.
I’m so excited to share with you the pattern for our first mini quilt of 2018… Flora! This beautiful little quilt was designed by the very talented Lauren of Molly & Mama…
At my daughter Chloe’s high school (can you believe my baby started high school???), the lunch lines are so long that she has been skipping lunch! She’s always starving by the time she gets home because she doesn’t want to carry a big lunch bag as well as her heavy backpack – poor girl!
Looking for free table runner patterns? I gathered up all my favorites in one place – here are free quilt patterns for table runners for fall, winter, spring and summer!
I am so in love with the beautiful look of simple patchwork quilts with lots of squares. This is the perfect way to use up fabric scraps like I did, or you can make a beautifully coordinated quilt with pre-cut 2 1/2’’ square fabric pieces that come in mini-charm packs.
I’m also in love with the process. If you feel like quilt making is your escape from the world and sitting down to sew for a few hours makes your troubles fade away… this is the quilt for you!
Sew an easy beautiful apron with this free sewing pattern that only uses one yard of fabric! Whether you are sewing for yourself or for a friend, an apron always comes in handy and makes a great gift. This blog post includes a link to a free template that I digitized for you.

Hello everyone! I am so excited that I was asked to guest post on Sew Can She! My name is Katie and I blog over at The Crafty Blog Stalker. I love all sorts of crafting from paper, to wood…
Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and what better way to show your mom how much you appreciate her than with handmade gifts? I believe that the best gifts are the ones that come from the heart. What could…
For the last couple of months, I have really wanted to sew a peplum top. I love tee shirts that have something fun and dressier about them, so this was perfect. I picked McCalls 6754 because of the princess seams and raglan sleeves – two of my favorite details.
Equilateral triangle quilts are relatively easy to make because there is only one size and shape to cut out – and you’ll cut out lots of them. Start with a plan (whether you want random triangles or a carefully arranged design) and I’ll provide some tips for making your work go smoothly. 🙂
Are you busy? I can’t hear you right now, but I’m sure you said ‘YES!’ These days everyone I know is so crazy busy with kids (carpooling, volunteering at school, science fair projects, feeding, bathing, keeping the rascals alive), work (commuting too!), and homemaking (dishes, laundry, floors, beds, bathrooms and on and on) that some people say they have no time to sew… GASP!
I’m so excited to make a new batch of face masks that have adjustable ear loops! The masks that I sewed 6-9 months ago really need replacing and this time I was able to find the perfect ear loops with an adjuster that are soft and comfortable, plus they ensure a good fit. I changed the template that I used for cutting out my face mask fabric (to account for sewn-in ties), so I’m sharing a new template with you that includes 5 different sizes from child small all the way up to adult extra large.
Oh so sweet baby quilts! Lovely 🙂
Your quilt is sew cute. I love to make baby quilts and would love to have this book. Thanks for sharing.
