This week I finally got to try out one of the patterns in the latest Ottobre Magazine (Issue 5/2015). The moment I saw this raglan top, I wanted to try it in a floral and stripes combination.
There has been at least one Ottobre women’s raglan top pattern each year (I’ve been subscribing for sooooo long) and I’ve made others, but I really love this version. It is a comfortable loose fit with cuffed sleeves. I shortened the sleeves by about 5 inches. Because I have short arms, and because I didn’t want them to be really long like their picture.
So, what have you been sewing up this week? Did you make something with one of my free sewing tutorials or patterns? I would love to see! Tag me on Instagram @sewcanshe.

Be a basketmaker! Sure, you can sew, but did you know that you can make amazing baskets too using your sewing machine, some fabric and the same materials that you use for your other projects?
Have you fallen in love with Quilt as You Go yet? It’s a fun technique for quilts, of course, but I’m having lots of fun using it for pouches and tote bags too.
I’m so excited to share with you the pattern for our first mini quilt of 2018… Flora! This beautiful little quilt was designed by the very talented Lauren of Molly & Mama…
At my daughter Chloe’s high school (can you believe my baby started high school???), the lunch lines are so long that she has been skipping lunch! She’s always starving by the time she gets home because she doesn’t want to carry a big lunch bag as well as her heavy backpack – poor girl!
Looking for free table runner patterns? I gathered up all my favorites in one place – here are free quilt patterns for table runners for fall, winter, spring and summer!
I am so in love with the beautiful look of simple patchwork quilts with lots of squares. This is the perfect way to use up fabric scraps like I did, or you can make a beautifully coordinated quilt with pre-cut 2 1/2’’ square fabric pieces that come in mini-charm packs.
I’m also in love with the process. If you feel like quilt making is your escape from the world and sitting down to sew for a few hours makes your troubles fade away… this is the quilt for you!
Sew an easy beautiful apron with this free sewing pattern that only uses one yard of fabric! Whether you are sewing for yourself or for a friend, an apron always comes in handy and makes a great gift. This blog post includes a link to a free template that I digitized for you.

If you’re always losing your scissors and seam rippers while you’re sewing…then you will love today’s Friday Spotlight. I’m so excited about Melissa’s Handy Embroidery Hoop Hanging Basket! These baskets are just the right size to hang on a pegboard…
Here’s the fourth design in my SewCanShe Applique of the month club. I’m having so much fun bringing them to you and you can find them all in my (all free) Craftsy shop . I’m calling these designs my ‘Far Away Forest’ Collection because they were inspired by Russian folk tales.
Let’s make some cute board shorts for summer? It’s so easy. Here’s a free pattern for boy’s pants and shorts that will look exactly like cool summer boardshorts when we are done.
I was blessed with pure inspiration that day (probably because it was Sunday, lol) and I ended up making a soft and beautiful double gauze cotton scarf with no sewing and in practically no time at all!
Yesterday I took my kids out to their grandma’s farm to see some new baby chicks that just hatched. It was the first time that Cadie wore this little dress I made her from the 01/2014 issue of Ottobre Design….
Two years ago I had a quilt accepted into QuiltCon 2016 in Austin, Texas. I booked a hotel, a plane ticket, and classes. I told everyone I was coming. I was so excited! And then something came up – a family event. Something I simply couldn’t miss. It was heartbreaking. I had to cancel everything. I promised myself that the next time I had a chance to attend QuiltCon I would.
