Yesterday we finished painting and started putting some fixtures back up. We still have blinds and closet doors to re-install, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel…
Especially since the bamboo flooring is here and will be installed next week, fingers crossed!
As I painted this week I couldn’t help but feel grateful for a family that so completely supports me in my sewing pursuits. I remembered how my sewing space grew from a corner of the family room (just a few years ago) to taking up the entire ‘formal’ living room in our house, and now I will have my very own studio, what a dream! Each time we have invested in my… what? career? the opportunities for me to do more have come with it. Like chances to write, teach, and travel. Although I don’t feel much like traveling now. I really just want to hide away in my new studio and sew!
This is the spare bedroom where I sew right now. I just finished 3 talent show dresses! Pretty soon my minions will be set to work carrying all of my sewing stuff upstairs, yay!
So, what have you been sewing up this week? Did you make something with one of my free sewing tutorials or patterns? I would love to see! Tag me on Instagram @sewcanshe.

At my daughter Chloe’s high school (can you believe my baby started high school???), the lunch lines are so long that she has been skipping lunch! She’s always starving by the time she gets home because she doesn’t want to carry a big lunch bag as well as her heavy backpack – poor girl!

I am so in love with the beautiful look of simple patchwork quilts with lots of squares. This is the perfect way to use up fabric scraps like I did, or you can make a beautifully coordinated quilt with pre-cut 2 1/2’’ square fabric pieces that come in mini-charm packs.
I’m also in love with the process. If you feel like quilt making is your escape from the world and sitting down to sew for a few hours makes your troubles fade away… this is the quilt for you!

I always feel a little bit sheepish when other sewists of quilters use an acronym or term that I’m not familiar with… and then sometimes I use one that makes people confused and I wonder if they are thinking…
Studies have shown that babies who are shown love and affection in infancy have much lower mortality rates, as well as higher IQ’s later in life and lower instances of mental illness.

Yey, what a huge space! It’s nearly the size of my favorite local fabric shop! I can imagine all the bolts of fabric, the cottons, the knits, the… wow have you drafted ideas on the storage area yet? Off course you have, that’s a piece of heaven over there (I’d be dreaming day and night about it 🙂 Have a great day, so happy for you!
Oh such wonderful space! While I enjoy having everything within a step or two, I despise constantly knocking something over because I don’t have room to move around. You are blessed.
You must have great floor installers, it looks like they know what they Are doing by letting the wood acclimate. Your room is going to look great. Congratulations!
I am so happy I stumbled upon you! Even though my kids are grown and I don’t have grandbabies I still enjoy all that you write/share. Your new sewing room is amazing! I am so envious. Got me to thinking, maybe I could talk the hubs into blowing out the wall between two of the bedrooms to make one big space?? I’ll let you know how that goes….
