Geometrics and Rulers – a Long Arm Quilting Workshop with Angela Walters
Angela Walters was busy at QuiltCon 2017. Besides being the keynote speaker, she had a special quilt exhibit within the show, and she was teaching workshops every day!
The quilt above is just one that was hanging in her special exhibit. See more pictures of it here.
That’s why I felt so, so lucky when I was able to attend her Geometrics and Rulers Long Arm Quilting Class. Besides being a quilting superstar, she is funny, kind, and an incredible teacher.
The class consisted of 10-15 minute periods of whiteboard instruction followed by Angela’s demonstration on a long arm machine, and then our turn to practice – 2 to a machine! We repeated the instruction, observation, and practice about 5 times. The class never got boring and Angela’s techniques never seemed too difficult to try.
By the end of the class I was actually proud of my work! I don’t currently own a long arm quilter, just a mid-arm Juki that I put on a Grace Frame sometimes. But now I really, really, want a long arm quilter. Maybe I should go back and read my own blog post What’s a Long Arm and Do I Need One?
Thank you so much to Angela Walters for sharing her talents with us. I don’t know very many people who work as hard as she does or deserve success! You can learn from Angela too… see her books here and her many Craftsy classes here.
