My new {thrifted} ironing board: now you see it, now you don’t!

Hey everybody! I didn’t have a blog post scheduled for today, but I got such an unexpected treat over the weekend, that I wanted to share. On Saturday we popped into our favorite thrift store with the kids (the one where I like to find fabric treasures)  and they had this practically new fold-away ironing board for only $5!

Until now I’ve been setting up my ironing board in front of my cutting table, which works fine, but I don’t really have anywhere handy to put it away when I’m done, the iron cord trails across the room, and the board does take up a lot of space.

I helped my husband install the new one from the thrift store, and now I have this sweet ironing station right next to the outlet (and my window).

Best of all, when I fold it up, it tucks behind the curtain and you can only see it if you look really hard.

I’m keeping my big ironing board in the garage for now, because chances are I’ll still want to use it from time to time. I even have a cute little spot for my iron:

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend too. I can’t wait until Wednesday for our next Sewing 201 post!

  1. Such a GREAT idea! I need to see if I can find a spot for an ironing board like this!

Love this! I’ve been thinking about putting one on the back of my door… but this is inspired!

  3. Love your sewing room and where you put your ironing board. I have my sewing machine by a window, love to look outside while I am sewing. When we have cool spring or fall days I’ll take my ironing board and iron outside to do my ironing. Are you a leftie? Noticed the iron on the left side of the board.

Be careful with that iron. I had the same one, and it burnt a costumers dress I was pressing.

  5. I have a guess for the ribbon giveaway. I believe there are 57 yards in the jar.

    Love your blog!

My uneducated guess is 39 yards. Even if I don’t win the prize and get my guess in before this game ends….. I’m going to consider myself a winner 🙂

Wow. What a lot of great ideas. I buy my fabric at fabric shops but only buy it if it is on special. You can always find something to make out of it. I have also started to buy zips, hooks and D rings from Aliexpress. I know I should be buying in my own country but I am on a pension so I have the option of buying there or else I have to wait for sales at fabric shops. I never thought of thrift stores for fabric.
