15 Free Christmas Quilt Patterns for 2024
Get ready to fill your home with the spirit of Christmas in quilts! Here are my 15 favorite Christmas quilt patterns to brighten your season and your sewing space, and all of them are free. You’ll find mini quilts, lap quilts, throw quilts, and even bed-size quilts. Quilts make the most wonderful gifts because everyone can use just one more quilt to snuggle up with. They also make beautiful wall hangings for any time of the year.
You know that I really love Christmas, and I love quilting. It just seems like a match made in heaven. Plus the endless, gorgeous Christmas fabrics inspire my creative spirit – I know you feel it too! The next logical step is to put all the beauty and inspiration in just one place. Well, here are my favorite Christmas quilt patterns. They range in size and experience level. You can use your newest bundles (bolts!) or scraps from your last Christmas sewing project.
Little Trees
I’m starting with my Little Trees Quilt. It’s an easy patchwork shortcut quilt because the tree tops are half square triangles. If you begin the holiday season by putting up a Christmas Tree, take it one step further this year by sharing a Christmas Tree quilt at the same time. It finishes at 53 by 51 inches.
No Bake Jolly Bar
The throw size No Bake Jolly Bar Quilt is a free tutorial from our friends at The Fat Quarter Shop. I love the fabric precuts (called Jolly Bars) they have for this holiday. You can also cut up 5” x 10” strips from your fabric stash. There are lots of chevron quilt variations, but you don’t want to miss this one. It’s perfect for beginners and so cute!
Gnome Forest Mini Quilt
How charming is this jolly quilt pattern? Everyone loves the Gnome Forest Mini Quilt because it is so fast and beginner-friendly. Gnomes are all the rage this time of year and it’s said they bring happiness and good luck. You can combine easy Gnome Quilt Blocks together with Pine Tree Blocks to make your quilt any size, or mix and match these blocks in another quilt pattern.

Christmas Irish Chain
Poinsettias grow well here in Florida and I love seeing them during the holidays. They are as beautiful adorning walls or beds in my Christmas Irish Chain Quilt as they are adorning porches and flower beds. Don’t worry, those aren’t Y-seams you see in this quilt. They are little snowball corners. Come see how easy this quilt actually is.
Oh Holy Night
Sew a beautiful wall hanging to show your love of the season! My Oh Holy Night Quilt Pattern is perfect for hanging on the wall or gifting to a December baby. It’s actually very fast and easy because there is just one star block to sew. The ‘Oh holy night’ appliqué letters can be optional. Free templates are included for the star block and appliqué letters.
Peppermint Mini Quilt
Red white and green decorations always remind us of Christmas, but the Peppermint Mini Quilt would be beautiful in so many color palettes. It would also make darling placemats. This free mini quilt pattern that uses solid fabrics was part of my mini quilt blog series. You don’t have to use solids, though. What colors and prints will you choose?
Free Christmas Applique Pattern
The Holly And Berries Free Applique Pattern was a sweet compliment to the corners of the quilt below. It would make an adorable pillow, placemat, or addition to so many other projects, I had to mention it.
Merry Stars
I hope we can all “sleep in heavenly peace” this holiday. Maybe under the Merry Stars Quilt Top? At least, I hope sewing up one of my patterns can help you enjoy your Christmas and Holiday Season.
Quilt Any Panel
You can take any panel and turn it into a sweet quilt by adding this fabulous and easy border. Just add 16″ x 16″ to your panel for the finished size. Putting stars in the corner frames it nicely and adds a Christmas symbol for hope and love. Use this free and easy sewing tutorial.
Christmas Panels Quilt
If you have smaller Christmas panels to use, consider combining them in this unique and easy design. Using my free pattern and tutorial you will learn how to put those panels together in an appealing way, and your finished quilt will look amazing. This pattern is for a 57″ x 67″ throw; perfect for a thoughtful gift.
Winter Trees
I love this throw pattern (64″ x 72″) because it’s cute and so easy! Plus, you can make scrappy trees or just use three fabrics and it will look amazing no matter what. Here is my free Winter Trees quilt pattern for you to enjoy this season.
Carpenter’s Star
Stars are especially appropriate at Christmas time. My free three yard quilt pattern using the Carpenter Star block is a meaningful way to remember Jesus this year. You can use any color for your quilt to match your home or a friend’s. If you’re not confident in your own choices, however, I have a formula so that your quilt will turn out perfectly. This pattern finishes at 41″ x 57″ for a small throw or lap quilt.
Polka Dot Fest
You will make 56 blocks 6″ blocks; talk about a polka dot fest! If you haven’t tried curved sewing in a while, now is your chance. Have fun with this free pattern from allpeoplequilt.com.
