Yesterday I was itching to sew something cute and quick. Oh, and it had to be useful too!
I decided to see if I could make two dumpling-shaped Pochi Pouches using two fat quarters – and it worked.
Guess what??? It’s almost back to school time! Here in Florida school starts up in less than a month.
We should start shopping for school supplies soon (or we could just scavenge the left-overs at Target the weekend before school starts – as we usually do – he he).
You can use your leftover or orphan (aka UFO) quilt blocks to make cute potholders! It’s a great last minute gift, housewarming present, or even teacher gift. See how I used some unfinished quilt blocks to make handmade patchwork potholders in practically no time at all.
There’s nothing better than a sewing machine and a stack of fabric when it comes to last minute gifts! I don’t know about you, but I hate going to the store to search for a gift that I should have thought about sooner. Plus I really think that handmade gifts are better. One of the first things I ever learned to sew was doll clothes. I think I was about 8. My family never had a lot of money (9 kids!), so I had to make my own. I cut up clothing that was destined for goodwill and made clothes for my stuffed dolls, stuffed animals, and even my younger siblings, lol!

I used it to up three more 2 Sided Zips from the tutorial that I wrote last year. They are totally easy to make – don’t be afraid of the curved zipper!
After an unexpectedly stressful week, I needed some ‘fun’ sewing time yesterday. I needed to create… to pull fabrics and find ones that looked together; to follow a pattern (okay, it was my own Wrist Strap Keychain Sewing Tutorial, but I followed it anyway), and to feel the gratification of finishing a project and calling it ‘good.’
